Strong Leadership in Times of Crisis

When wildfires devastated our communities, Mike went to work securing millions of dollars to rebuild neighborhoods and infrastructure. He took on insurance companies and won, so neighbors could rebuild their homes and lives. Today, Mike is leading the charge to make Lake County more fire-safe.

Our Kids Are Mike’s Top Priority

Together with local leaders and neighbors, Mike launched the largest anti-childhood poverty campaign in Lake County history. He’s been a leader in the fight to increase public school funding to record levels, expand the number of school counselors and drive down the cost of college by making the first two years of community college tuition free to the vast majority of students. Mike also secured a permanent $900 million for career training programs in California public high schools, which will benefit generations of students.

Keeping Communities Safe and Vibrant

In a first-of-a-kind agreement, Mike is advancing a groundbreaking partnership between the State of California, County of Lake and the City of Clearlake. Mike has secured a modern new headquarters building for the Lake County’s Sheriff’s Office at the former State Armory site in Lakeport. And in return, the State will be building 80 new housing units dedicated to working families and seniors in the City of Clearlake on land that was once owned by Lake County. This is a win-win for all of us!

Expanding High-Speed Internet in Lake County

Mike knows too many of us are on the wrong side of the digital divide. That’s why he’s helped to secure tens of millions of dollars to expand faster internet service in all corners of our region, including a large new project here in Lake. It’s part of a critical infrastructure project that’s become one of the biggest rural economic development initiatives in modern history here in California.

Bold Action to Combat the Drought

Mike has worked successfully to secure millions of dollars to help our communities respond to this historic drought, including right here in Lake County, with funding for water conservation, resiliency and storage projects.
